Sestak press release tries to muddy the waters on Afghanistan
By ARLEN SPECTER FOR SENATE
-> Sestak’s home town paper contradicts his press release <-
With his press release today (below), it’s obvious that Cong. Sestak is trying to muddy the waters on the clear differences between he and Sen. Specter on the critical issue of Afghanistan.
To recap, Sestak has said multiple times that he supports a ‘measured increase’ in troops in Afghanistan. In fact he said that on Oct. 19th on Hardball.
To contrast, here’s a blog post from Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent, who participated in a blogger call with Sen. Specter on Thursday:
Today on a conference call with foreign policy bloggers, Senator Specter made clear his opposition to sending additional troops to Afghanistan. “We ought not to add troops in Afghanistan,” Specter said, adding that he questioned “even staying” in Afghanistan unless the administration demonstrates that continuing the war is “indispensable to our fight against al-Qaeda.” –Specter Opposes Adding Troops in Afghanistan, by Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent.
Also, from the 11/13/09 edition of Joe Sestak’s home town newspaper:
“That puts him in fairly direct opposition to his foe in the Democratic primary, Rep. Joe Sestak,” said Phil Heron of the Delaware County Daily Times.
