One week later, another step for Doherty

It took exactly one week for Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty to pivot from winning reelection to declaring a run for governor.

But he says his constituents won’t think he’s bolting.

“They’re  the ones who have been encouraging me the most,” he told reporters on a conference call Tuesday afternoon. “They’re happy with the job I’ve done.”

I don’t buy the argument that you should resign your current office to run for another one, and neither do the voters. Look at Bob Casey, Tom Ridge, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and basically every major politician on the national stage.

Doherty will be a strong candidate if he can raise some cash.

Go look at the hometown paper website. It does not look like there are a lot of constituents encouraging him there. Must be the 40% of the voters who went through the hassle and trouble of writing in someone else because Doherty tried to rig the election by running on both lines. In addition to a bankrupt city, he has some kind of tone deafness problem.

“Tried to rig the election by running on both lines”

The article on the site says he won the Dem nomination and Republicans wrote him in. This doesn’t sound like rigging, GOPHAWK. You go campaign for Sarah Palin and leave the analysis to us.

Since the voting machines failed to count a few thousand votes, don’t count on him being a big winner.
Besides, if he was so loved, why would he lie on the his application to the IRS? In July he filed as a qualified state political organization formed to influence the nomination of a state public office. The address given was listed as being in Scranton. It is NOT! That address is in Dunmore, Pa. If he would lie to the IRS, he would lie to anyone.

That is the problem with a message board. People like billy bob can make any claim they want with no factual information to back it up. What are you even talking about billy bob?

For 68 years I have been a Scranton resident and witnessed the highs and lows of my beloved city. With the loss of our coal and garment industry, I lived through a local depression. As a teacher for 33 years in the Scranton School District, I watched our best and brightest leave the area for more lucrative jobs in distant cities. For years I saw stagnation. Now we have a rebirth, a new energy…..a new medical college, a revitalized downtown business district, increased support for the arts and importunately our young leaders are choosing to return and proudly partiscipate in this vibrant atmosphere. A renaissance is happening in Scranton and Mayor Chris Doherty is its leader.
