Huckabee ‘doesn’t have to like’ Toomey to vote for him
Mike Huckabee doesn’t hold a grudge.
Back in 2007, Republican Pat Toomey, then head of the conservative Club for Growth, wrote an op-ed saying that the former Arkansas governor shouldn’t be the GOP’s nominee for vice president, let alone president.
Now that Toomey has become the party’s presumptive nominee for Senate, Huckabee, while acknowledging that he’s “just not engaged” in the race, says he’d still happily support Toomey.
“It’s not that big a deal,” Huckabee, in an interview with The Morning Call, said of Toomey’s past criticisms. “If I’m going to pick out people that I’m really going to burn my shirt for, would I be doing something for someone who spent $2 million to tell everybody I was a liberal—which I’m not?
Asked if he would vote for Toomey in a general election, Huckabee said: “Yes, I would, in a heartbeat. I don’t have to like the guy to vote for him. If it came down to Pat Toomey sitting in the Senate seat or Arlen Specter, I know that Pat Toomey would vote more like I would vote if I was sitting there.”

“People who don’t like him” are going to end up being a pretty important (and sizable) demographic for Toomey to pick up…

Huckabee doesn’t live in PA, so what does it matter who he would vote for? PA is not Alabama (except for the middle).

Mr. Diano raises an excellent point.
Frankly, poll numbers right now don’t mean much while Mr. Toomey can pretend to be a moderate. As soon as the general election season rolls around, the Pennsylvania public will get plenty of reminders of just how far right Mr. Toomey is and just how wrong he is for Pennsylvania.

Mr. Diano, kindly recall that it was the middle of Pennsylvania that rebuilt the wall between church and state in the Kitzmiller decision.
