Statement of Mayor Chris Doherty on Receiving the City of Harrisburg’s Award for Distinguished Public Service
By THE OFFICE OF SCRANTON MAYOR CHRIS DOHERTY
Scranton, PA – The following is a statement from Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty in response to recently receiving the city of Harrisburg’s Award for Distinguished Public Service, the city’s highest recognition. The letter announcing the award from Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed to Mayor Doherty accompanies this statement.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized by the city of Harrisburg for the work we’re doing here in Scranton and I thank Mayor Reed for this distinguished award.
“In my view this is an award for the entire city of Scranton because the success we’ve enjoyed here over the past several years has been the result of a collaborative effort to make Scranton the best possible city it can be to raise a family. We’ve enjoyed a significant increase in investment in our city, created thousands of new jobs, and helped make this a more livable city. As a result property values are going up and the rest of the country is taking notice.
“We’re going to continue working hard to build on our success in the years to come and, as Mayor Reed says, ‘bring strength to the cause of further building and advancing all our urban communities in Pennsylvania and America.’”
