Specter, the Phils, cheesesteaks and cheesecakes
Senator Arlen Specter is taking part in that old tradition of the political sports bet.
Specter, along with Senator Bob Casey, have made a friendly wager on the coming World Series matchup of the Phillies vs. the Yankees. If the Yanks win, Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York get some delicious Philly cheesesteaks.
If the Phils win, Specter and Casey get to enjoy Junior’s famous cheesecakes.
“It’s great to see the Bronx Bombers back in the World Series with so many familiar faces from their storied run in the 1990’s,” Specter said in a statement. “Unfortunately for the Yankees, tradition alone will do them little good against Charlie Manuel’s fearsome lineup. I look forward to enjoying the New York cheesecakes, although nothing will be as sweet as the Phillies’ back-to-back titles.”

Will it be cheesesteaks or cheesecakes?
The U.S. senators representing the states of Pennsylvania and New York are betting local delicacies in a friendly wager over the World Series.
If the Yankees win, Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand will get a supply of Philadelphia cheesesteaks.
If the Philadelphia Phillies win, Sens. Arlen Specter and Robert Casey will get some cheesecakes from Junior’s.
There are higher stakes to another food bet. If the Yankees lose, New York City’s Hunts Point Terminal Market will donate a truckload of local produce to a Philadelphia food bank. If the Phillies lose, the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market will send food to a New York City food bank.
Both teams begin their World Series showdown on Wednesday night in New York.

NEW FLASH, if the Yankees get within one game of clinching the World Series, Arlen Specter will switch allegiance to the Yankees and will talk about he always sided with the Yankees because they give him the best chance to ride a bandwagon and celebrate a World Series Championship.

Clever, Walter, and by clever I mean lame.
Go Phillies! Do Senators Schumer and Gillibrand enjoy their cheesesteaks wiz whit’ or wiz whitout?

Hey, if there’s one thing that Sen. Specter has been totally consistent on, it is his love of Philadelphia sports teams.
Hell, he was ready to hand down subpoenas to every person in the Patriots organization — from Bill Belichick to the towel boy — during the “Spygate” controversy.

What team does a carpetbagger like Joe Sestak root for, Washington Nationals?

KEWL!!!!!!!! Arlen Specter, Ed Rendell, Upchuck Schumer … such normal, beer-drinkin’, local-sports-team-lovin’, middle-American regular guys!!! What a hilarious-yet-appropriate wager!!! No politicians have ever done something like that (quickly followed by press releases)
Makes the World Series so much more meaningful to me to have their spontaneous and oh-so-uncalculated enthusiasm involved.
Can’t wait till Angelo Cataldi (who, by the way, in general I love … and I’m not being sarcastic … but he does report to corporate powers-that-be) puts on the kid-on-Christmas-morning routine next time Snarlin Sphincter calls into 610 WIP to get election-contributions-in-kind via his utterly mundane insights into the previous night’s Eagles or Phillies game.

id rather watch the game with Eddie Rendell, Arlen and Schumer than with a fake progressive carpetbagger like Joe sestak. I would recommend him to hang out with to people that have trouble sleeping.
An aside…Parents, look to see who it is before answering the door bell… it may be sestak dressed up in a halloween costume coming to shake you down for a campaign donation.

Yes. Be careful. Sestak’s dressed up as a Democrat this year. I think it’s the “trick” part of “trick or treat”.
