Schweiker endorses Corbett for guv

The last Republican to hold the Governor’s Mansion has decided who he thinks should go there next.

Former Gov. Mark Schweiker on Monday endorsed state Attorney Tom Corbett’s candidacy, calling him the “right choice for our new Governor.”

“We need someone to restore this trust,” Schweiker, who became governor in 2001 when Tom Ridge vacated the office to become Homeland Security Secretary, wrote in an e-mail to Corbett’s supporters. “Tom has an unmatched record of accomplishment. His experience is vast and his dedication to the people of Pennsylvania is genuine.”

Schweiker’s support gives Corbett yet another high-profile GOP backer in his primary next year against Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6). Former governors Tom Ridge and Dick Thornburgh are also supporting Corbett.

this coming from the guy who asher said to pack his bags and couldn’t run for a full term, then in his infinite wisdom handed republicans mike fisher.

how ironic that the same “can’t lose” type of candidate is now being pushed all over again in tom corbett. sad, really, that a convicted felon calls the shots for our supposedly squeaky clean Attorney General. and sad, that schweiker is sucking back up to the guys that screwed him in the first place.

The crook Asher picked the Attorney General. That says all that needs to be said about PA GOP politics. Wait until the negative ads on this one issue begin to hit with the force of bigtime money behind them. Association with Asher will prove a liability.

Who cares! Not a real surprise, is it? Schweiker has no constituency…he never ran for governor and was annointed as lt. gov.
