Pat Toomey, big spender
When Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey’s campaign announced earlier this month that it had raised a total of $3.1 million during the election cycle, some folks quietly took note of the fact that the campaign didn’t disclose a number for cash on hand. The thought was that Toomey has been burning through cash.
That indeed seem to be the case.
Toomey campaign manager Mark Harris confirms to pa2010.com Central that the candidate has $1.8 million in cash on hand. Toomey’s latest campaign finance report hasn’t yet been published online, but our friends over at Pennsylvania Ave. have obtained a copy of the report’s cover sheet, which indicates Toomey spent a more-than-healthy $861,000 during the quarter.
We’ll have to wait to see exactly what he’s been paying for with all that. The bad news for Toomey is he has a steep fundraising hill to climb against either Democrat he’ll face next November, be it Joe Sestak or Arlen Specter. The good news for him? Those two will be tearing holes in their wallets just to get past the primary.

That’s a lot of spending for a guy without a viable primary challenger.
Did he spend it on beers for his buddy Joe Sestak?
“The good news for him? Those two will be tearing holes in their wallets just to get past the primary.”
That’s EXACTLY why Toomey is doing all he can to promote Sestak.

Sestak surely doesn’t need Toomey’s help to crush Specter, which is exactly what is going to happen. Arlen is going to spend 15 million that could feed the hungry, but instead it’s going to blown on advertising for a race he was destined to lose. That’s a cryin shame.

Franklin-
How much is Sestak going to spend? How much more is he going to force Arlen to spend in a Primary?
How much damage has Sestak done to local candidates in his district by refusing to help them and draining resources from their 2009 efforts?
How much damage has Sestak done to the 2010 congressional race by keeping millions of dollars (deceptively) raised to hold the seat for Dems?
