Onorato says he has almost $6M on hand
Gubernatorial hopeful Dan Onorato told supporters Monday that his campaign is closing in on the $6-million mark, reaffirming that his financial advantage in next year’s Democratic primary remains formidable.
In an e-mail Monday morning, Onorato, the Allegheny County executive, said a fundraiser last week had brought the campaign “very close to having almost $6 million cash on hand.”
“I am extremely grateful for the support I have received around the state,” he wrote.
No Democrat in the crowded primary field can match Onorato’s head start financially, though polls have consistently showed a wide open race with no candidate enjoying significant name recognition. Auditor General Jack Wagner had a little less than $500,000 on hand as of last month, according to campaign finance data. Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty and Philadelphia businessman Tom Knox have yet to file any campaign finance numbers with the state this year. Hoeffel told The Tribune-Review he hopes to have $1 million by the end of the year.
