Lentz bashes Metcalfe ‘traitor’ remark… and asks for money

It didn’t long take after state Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) attacked veterans who support climate change legislation for someone to use his remarks as fodder in a fundraising e-mail.

Metcalfe had called “any veteran” supporting such a bill a “traitor to the oath he or she took defend the Constitution of our great nation!”

So State Representative Bryan Lentz (D-Delaware), an Iraq war veteran who is running for Congress in the 7th District, e-mailed supporters Wednesday with the subject line “I ain’t no traitor.”

“Many of the veterans the Metcalfe attacked fought in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Lentz wrote. “Calling these veteran ‘traitors’ is a new low even for a right wing Republican.

“I am proud to be working with local and national veterans to support legislation that will reduce climate change and its disastrous effects, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and create stable, good paying jobs in the renewable energy industry,” he added. “One of the reasons I am running for Congress is to fight for these kinds of forward thinking energy policies. I hope you will support me and my campaign by contributing $25, $50, $100 or more today.”

Lentz is likely to face former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan in next year’s general election.

    Oh Dave B, how I love to read your lunatic rantings. Don’t you see that the likes of both Metcalf and you, spouting radical and ridiculous fear-mongering, hate-filled verbal assaults are exactly what the Democrats need to retain their legislative majority and that you and your bunker dwelling friends are your party’s worst nightmare. Aren’t all Democrats traitors? Isn’t everyone that voted for Obama a Socialist traitor? Please, please keep it up. And tell your nut job friends to tune in as well.

    Craziest was in the summer of 2006 at a committee hearing on raising the minimum wage. Remember that this was in the wake of the pay-raise scandal.

    Metcalfe’s logic went something like this:

    1) If the minimum wage goes up, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will go up.

    2) If the CPI goes up, the legislature’s cost-of living adjustment (COLA) kicks in, adjusting their salaries to account for the slight increase in prices.

    3) Therefore, anyone who votes for increasing the minimum wage is voting for another pay raise.

    The spectators in the committee room burst out laughing.
