6th and 7th districts now forecasted as tossups

Those chaotic House races in the 6th and 7th Districts are now rated as tossups by our friends at CQ Politics, a change from the earlier forecast of leaning Democratic that reflects the perceived strengths of Republicans Steven Welch and Pat Meehan.

Both seats, the former being left open by Jim Gerlach and the latter by Joe Sestak, had been seen as tilting in the Democrats’ favor. But with Welch spending heavily from his own pocket in the 6th and Republicans clearing the field for Meehan in the 7th, the two races are increasingly competitive.

Check out the details here.

This is going to hinge on how economy and health care play out. If Dems are perceived as successful, we do better.

The 7th district Democrats are working on local races this week.

After November 3, when both Lentz and Vitali are likely to declare their intentions, projections will be easier.

Keep your eyes open for a strong campaign from Bryan. He is a fighter who will not be intimidated.

This is great news. I do hope one of these gentlemen realizes that running will only hurt the party and concedes to the other. Lentz seems to have had a better start and I wish him the best. I want to see this district stay in the hands of a Democrat.

    Colleen and Eric-
Despite the “preference” many Delco Dems may have for Sestak over Specter, the congressional seat is the BIG fight.

Sestak’s been burning people and resources in the 7th district for 3 years now. The core workers aren’t going to lift a finger to help him, when they can be more effective (and appreciated) in helping Lentz or Vitali. And there will be plenty of dry eyes when Specter defeats Sestak in the primary (and a few cheers).

The people left working for Sestak will have to work twice as hard (because they will be half as good as the people that learned their lesson with Sestak in past election cycles).

    Gentlemen-
After this week (http://www.delcodems.com/candidates.htm), when we turn our eyes to regional and state races, I too hope that Democrats join forces.

Vitali and Lentz are both strong voices in Harrisburg, and we don’t want to lose both of them. From where I stand, both have a healthy respect for each other, and hold many similar positions. I am hopeful that a primary will not be necessary.

That said, I anticipate that all 7th Dems will join forces to hold this seat once a frontrunner is established.

If things hinge on the economy and Afghanistan, Dems are toast.

    pundit-
If those situations improve, the Dems gets the credit.
There should be good signs of economic recovery and job growth by this time next year.

Afghanistan is a problem because Bush ignored it by wasting resources in Iraq. Don’t know if it’s possible to fix at this point, but at least Obama’s focusing on it.

2010 is going to be a change the tide year as the GOP and even Independents will be successful. America will be especially seeking Non-Politicos to support. Watch out as the grassroots efforts create a political tsunami. People are offended and mad about the lack of listening going on in DC. If you want to support a real individual candidate for the people, then look at http://www.damian2010.com – on my link – going up against Allyson Schwartz in the 13th.
If you like what you see send you $25 – $50 in now. Common people need to support an uncommmon and honest candidate.
