Specter says Wilson should get ‘reprimand or censure’ for heckling Obama
Continuing his strong defense of President Obama, Senator Arlen Specter said Thursday that Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) should be formally admonished for yelling “you lie” at Obama during his speech Wednesday night.
“There ought to be a reprimand or censure of Rep. Joe Wilson to discourage that kind of conduct in the future,” Specter said on his Twitter feed. “Rep. Wilson apologized immediately afterward but I don’t think that’s adequate.”
Politicians on both sides of the aisle were condemning Wilson Thursday, as the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sought to use his outburst as a fundraising tool.
“Calling the President of the United States a liar in front of the nation is a new low even for House Republicans and it deserves the strongest response we can give,” DCCC executive director Jon Vogel said in an e-mail.

Nice Go Arlen…

And by “reprimand” he means a good old fashion horse-whipping.

Arlen needs to keep his mouth shut and worry about doing his job. His poll numbers suck, he voted for a stimulus that has failed, and now he’s supporting a health care plan that 53% of people are against. He’s either senile or suicidal.

What about censure or reprimand for the “single bullet theory”?

Credit where credit’s due. Specter showed his cojones today. Gotta like that.

I think Wilson is an idiot, and showed it clearly last night, but we don’t need to waste time drawing more attention to it. There is much more important work to be done.
Move on, ignore Wilson and the rest of his hack friends, and let’s get it done.

Whatever you think of Wilson, he is at least doing what the voters elected him to do for the party they elected him to represent. Can Arlen Specter say the same?

ARLEN DESERVES TO BE HECKLED TOO FOR REPEALING THE GLASS-STEAGALL ACT OF 1933 (CHECK HIS VOTE IN 1999). THIS LAW SEPARATED RETAIL AND INVESTMENT BANKS AND WORKED FINE FOR 1/2 CENTURY. ARLEN, HOW MUCH CAMPAIGN MONEY DID YOU RECEIVE FROM THE BANKING LOBBY? THANKS FOR THE GREAT RECESSION.

Jim-
Stimulus plan is working. Specter gets points for doing the right thing. The Republicans have created a confusion about what is and is not planned, and what is still being discussed. The majority is behind the fixes Obama talked about last night.
The GOP is still trying to kill Social Security and Medicare.

The conspiracy nuts distort the path of the bullet (identified as CE399) and other information. Here is a nice that debunks the conspiracy fans.
http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/sbt.htm
An excerpt:
“Anybody who wants to posit that CE 399 was faked and planted by conspirators needs to supply plausible answers to all of the following questions. Why did the conspirators . . .
1. Plant it in a location where it could easily have been lost?
2. Plant a bullet that was only “slightly” damaged if its role was to have passed through at least the President? Why not shoot up some livestock and get a bullet a bit more mangled?
3. Plant it before it could have been known how many other bullets would be recovered? How could they have known that CE 399 would not be the “one bullet too many” that would blow the whole plot?
4. Plant the bullet so it was found before it was known how much lead was in JFK’s neck/upper back? What if a big chunk of lead was found in JFK’s neck or upper back, a chunk too big to have come from CE 399″
Jack-
Wilson is getting is a$$ kicked. In the past 24 hours, his Democratic opponent for 2010 has raised a half-million dollars from donation streams tagged to this story:

I think every time one of these Republicans acts like such a jerk, Specter is GLAD he left.
Michael-
Does it occur to you that Wilson is a South Carolina cracker who clearly doesn’t respect Obama or immigrants (and skin color is the most likely reason behind his outburst)?
Was Wilson elected to disrespect the President during a speech? Was Wilson elected to lie when Obama was setting the record straight? Was Wilson elected to help insurance companies deny health coverage to those that need it?
Specter was elected by a majority of Pennsylvanians (and, yes, lots of Democrats) to represent the state and the country and make the tough calls. Specter never represented the rabid right-wing base, but rather the middle, which is often left out of the polarized political debates.

From Wikipedia:
“The final bill resolving the differences was passed in the Senate 90-8 (one not voting) and in the House: 362-57 (15 not voting). The legislation was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999.”
It was a bad vote by Specter, and one I think he and many others would take back if they could. I think that if a newer GLASS-STEAGALL act were to come up for a vote, that Specter would vote to pass it.
The Toomey’s would keep GLASS-STEAGALL repealed.

Michael…
Sestak certainly can’t say the same. He won’t show up to vote, not to mention he should refund the $ he received while running for congress. Most people wouldn’t be as arrogant as he is… pretty much the equivalent to not showing up for your job, yet asking for a promotion.
Heckler–
Rep. Sestak voted against HR 1664 and gave a weak excuse for not wanting to do so. “You can put lip stick on a pig, but its still a pig”
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/111/house/1/votes/182/
Sestak’s weak excuse for not wanting accountability with our tax dollars received by Corporate executives shows where his interests are. Appears Joe Sestak receives alot of investment banking money… hmmm any connection there?

Joe Sestak’s father died on Sunday!
Specter really has nerve asking for a reprimand or censure of Rep. Wilson, saying that his apology was inadequate. The same could be said of Specter himself when he apologized after telling ethnic “jokes” late last year at an official GOP function. There are over 820,000 Polish Americans in PA who Specter didn’t care or forgot about when making “jokes” about his own constituents. They will be voting against Specter next year. Polish Americans and Polish people the world over felt the Specter apology was grossly insufficient. Arlen Specter fits so perfectly the sleazy stereotype of a politician and is undeserving of the office.

Jessie–
I am very sorry to hear that the Congressman’s father passed away.
I dont think Specter has nerve. He’s served under many Presidents and for him to call for it means something. The polish jokes are all in fun… you should have seen Arlen at the IMPROV comedy show.
His jokes are much less offensive to me that Joe’s willingness to co-mingle with Pat Toomey.

“The polish jokes are all in fun…”
Just because they may be said in fun doesn’t mean that they are not offensive or demeaning to others. Specter certainly should have known better — and so should you, WESTPADEM6.

We all probably remember or read about LBJ’s “Domino Theory” during the Vietnam War. Haven’t Bush and now Obama claimed much the same in Afghanistan? And don’t Specter, Toomey, and Sestak all believe it as well? Do any of these guys know anything about the histories of Vietnam and Afghanistan? Seems doubtful.

Hey, Concerned Citizen, here’s another point about the candidates in the Senate race:
What are Specter, Sestak, or Toomey going to do about the need for smart regulation of the banking sector? Barry O. was elected to stabilize the economy and restructure how we conduct business in the country. Instead, he’s talking about health care and a host of other issues. Where’s the leadership? The voters will decide in Nov. 2010. The PA Senate candidate who gets it right and shows leadership on this issue will solidify their position.

Maybe Lee is part polish, part irish, part italian…
Question: How many Lee’s does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: He’s voting for Sestak because during his 31 years in the Navy, Sestak ordered a lot of light bulbs changed and Specter only knows how to work a “switch”.
