Lentz nabs local labor endorsement

Lentz nabs local labor endorsement

State Representative Bryan Lentz (D-Delaware) was endorsed by a local AFL-CIO chapter late Wednesday, setting him up to argue that he’s a candidate for labor even before he’s declared his candidacy.

The Delaware County chapter of the labor group endorsed Lentz on a unanimous vote, which both the campaign and the organization said was unprecedented in an announcement Thursday.

“America’s workers must share equitably in our nation’s prosperity and I will fight hard everyday to ensure that our working men and women have good wages, affordable health care and access to quality education for their children,” Lentz said in a statement. “I am honored to receive the unanimous endorsement of the AFL-CIO and I will always stand with the American workers in Congress.”

Lentz is the only Democrat who has said he will run for the 7th District seat being left open by Congressman Joe Sestak. State Representative Greg Vitali (D-Delaware) is also considering the race.

He’s the best guy to take on Mr. Meehan — I would be very surprised if Rep. Vitali decides to run in the primary after this endorsement.

I hope Vitali runs. Who will run for his seat Dem and Repub if Vitali? Any insight Diano!

AFL-CIO stands with Lentz now…where will they be in November 2010? Watch them this November push the delco gop candidates.

Vitali is still considering running, but most of doubt he will pull the trigger and do so.

He’s got a ton of seniority in the State House. He’d make a great Congressman, but the campaign can be pretty grueling and Greg has always shied away from massive fund raising style campaigning.

Locally, we all know who would be the likely Dem to run for Vitali’s seat. His nickname in the committee is “Prince Valiant”, but that’s all I’ll give up, until after Greg makes his decision.

Vitali doesn’t have the fortitude to run. His strength has always been his ability to knock on every door and this is not practical for a Congressional race. His seniority in the House has never translated into anything significant and is actually a negative since he’s been in office for 14-16 years and accomplished NOTHING.

I am shocked.. SHOCKED… that the AFL-CIO would endorse a Demcorat over a Republican in a Congressional race. What’s next, an endorsement from NARAL or the trial lawyers? Where will this craziness end!?!

    Thomas-
I don’t agree about the fortitude. Greg’s got lots of stamina. I’m just not sure he would enjoy that type of campaigning. Congressional races and Federal politics are different kinds of beasts from state races. The TV commercials, the barrage of media people, image consultants, etc. does seem like it would be “fun” for Greg. But, a Congressional race is less personal and he can’t meet with all the voters. His current campaign style brings him great enjoyment, but is not possible for a Congressional race. So, he’d be missing out on the part he likes best.

He’s great on policy, particularly the environment, and has done a lot to push that.

    Shocked-
Isn’t this a primary endorsement? It’s impressive/interesting that they are willing to commit before other candidates have emerged.

I think this is meant to deter Vitali from entering the race, as it raises the bar.

Vitali is a great State Reprsentative, I hate hearing people say he brings no money into the 166th District. He is the best, and a class act guy. I have had many conversations with him asking him to support things. He was honest in giving me reasons why he wouldn’t support certain bills. He also saves the taxpayers money, by owning his own car, not having a apt in Harrisburg, and taking the minimum in gas for his travels back and forth.

Dave, I think I know who you are talking about, in regards to the “prince” he is a Democrat who sits on the Board in Haverford. He talks good, but hardly works for the residents. On the GOP side I think a certain Council Member might run after he was snubbed for the state senate and congressional seat.

Fortitude is probably the wrong word, I just don’t think Vitali will take the risk of giving up a sure thing to run for Congress. Unless of course he runs for both offices concurrently.

    Shocked–

The Delco AFL-CIO endorsed Weldon over Sestak. They endorsed Gannon over Lentz. I would get over being “shocked” and learn the lay of the land.

The Delco AFL-CIO have repeatedly shown themselves to be a bunch of unprincipled wh0res that are too stupid to realize they are cutting their own throats by supporting the Delco GOP monopoly and anti-labor politicians like Weldon.

If they strapped on a pair, and went to the wizard to get some brains, they could get some REAL pro-union officials elected. Instead the union leaders sell out, get workers out to the polls, and undercut their Brothers and Sisters in the union movement.

I won’t go as far as accusing the union leadership of getting perks or kickbacks or jobs for relatives or being plain stupid. However, if they were, I’d almost feel like Claude Rains being “Shocked” to find gambling going on at Rick’s Bar.

I’ve heard whispers about Lentz using “bonus gate” workers during the Gannon campaign. With that investigation still going on, is there any reason Mr. Lentz should be looking over his shoulder?

Do you work for Fox news, or Karl Rove?
Or did you just learn the ‘some people say’ meme from them?

    Ouch Anon, that hurts!

Seriously, this topic was brought up at a public forum of questions and answers hosted by the Delco Chamber of Commerce and broadcast by Comcast, during the last election cycle one year ago. I wouldn’t make this stuff up.

    I’m happy to inform.

Ooh.. this looks like fun. Let me join in..

Delco mod, were YOU the one that brought up this topic at that public forum? :-)

During the Bush administration, it was classic Rove to make up a rumor, feed it to a reporter, then comment on a “story that was out there being reported”.

Sorry Mr. Diano. Nothing that interesting. I just watch TV.
