Killion forms committee for Lt. Gov. race

State Representative Tom Killion (R-Delaware) took a step toward a run for Lieutenant Governor Tuesday when he announced the formation of an exploratory committee for the race.

Killion, who also launched a campaign Web site, said in a statement that he had been encouraged by talks with party leaders.

“Pennsylvania is facing many critical challenges in the coming years and the 2010 election cycle is going to determine how we address these issues,” said Killion.  “I believe strongly that we need to maintain fiscal responsibility on the state level while creating a better economic environment that allows businesses to grow, flourish, and create new jobs.”

Last month, pa2010.com reported that Killion was considering entering the crowded GOP primary field.

Killion looks like a good candidate. Only Lt Gov candidate out there with both county and state experience. His bio reads well too, especially the non-profit experience.

Ultimately only one southeast hack will run, like Aichele or Killion or Cawley or whatever. So someone is BSing here. Asher will only allow for one hack to run so the vote of the chosen one is not splintered, leaving a Johnson, Shenker or DiFrancisco to win.

Great guy – served Delaware county and the Southeast well – universally liked, will be an asset to the ticket

Nice website, but isn’t he a part of the bonusgate stuff on the QT? Some shaky addresses with money going to them…am I describing the wrong Delco guy?? A google showed some smoke…makes me wonder is this guy serious….

Asher has already promised Cawley the job. Tom and Carol will have to wait until 2018

Bonusgate? Please, Killion is strictly by the books and a good government guy.

The Veon troops are trying to cast a broad net and throw accusations at every possible Republican they can. No smoke, no fire. Just partisan smears without substance.

As for Jim “Forrest Gump” Cawley, I can’t imagine he was ever the front-runner in the Southeast and certainly isn’t now that Killion is in.

Folks, Killion’s far removed from any Bonusgate activity; has BEEN a County Commissioner (8 years in office); has won 4 state rep. races (while Aichele has lost her only attempt to run for state office, costing Chester County its Senate Seat, and Cauley’s never attempted anything outside Bucks County). It’s clear his experience far overshadow’s his competition’s. This is serious. The best and most qualified candidate from the southeast needs to be choosen. If the R’s want this seat back, Killion is the ONLY choice.

Fair enough. Killion, Cawley and Aichele, DiFrancesco (on a Harley no less) are the names that keep coming up as Lt. Gov. There are one or two sleepers that folks in SEPA keep missing but these are the 4 that are hot items now in the chatterbox. Here’s the whole list I found…with the exception of Meehan, it’s a pretty big group:

Another white guy on the ballot, wonderful; I think Aichele would be a great candidate and balance the ticket nicely.

Aichele’s candidacy is a joke. Her Senate loss to Dinniman in what should rightfully be a Republican seat shows that she doesn’t have the chops.

If she doesn’t have the drive or commitment to win a legisaltive seat in her own county, she’s sure not going to win statewide.

It’d be a shame to losing Killion in the House – a definite rising star – would help the ticket, though – best candidate from the Southeast

Killion’s a gamer and well respected, Cawley is on the rise, Aichele is making moves and is brave to take her stand so early…even DiFrancesco with the Harley-Davidson traveling 67 counties gets respect for trying…but the sleeper is Joe Watkins….watch out for this guy if he makes a move. Some real energy here out of Philly to get this guy in play because of his in state and out of state Govt Relations, Business, Political and now, Media savvy (Big spike in the past few weeks of him being on MSNBC). And quietly, very quietly some inside players are thinking it over and nudging him to keep talking to the rank and file. He has not said or decided anything as far as anyone can tell, but his actions are hinting otherwise.

Lots of good candidates, but Aichele will be the Lt. Governor nominee. The GOP leaders like the way she balances the ticket.

    Walsingham,

If she can’t win an R leaning state senatorial district, how can the GOP leaders think she can deliver the Southeast, which would ultimatly be her job. If you’re right, it’s a mistake.

    let’s win this thing,

Most of them think the 2006 Senate race was a fluke – a bad year for the GOP across the country. They are looking at Aichele being on the ballot countywide eight times in Chester County and being the top vote-getter each time. That county has 500,000 residents – much bigger than a state Senate district. They also want to win back the suburban “Soccer Moms.” That’s the chatter around the state.

If he runs, it’ll be Corbett/Watkins. Watkins is well respected by people state wide, especially Republican Women. For years, He has spoken to the Pa Federation of Republican Women. He’s twice spoken at RNC Conventions in 2000 and 2008. He’s worked deeply in North Philadelphia as Pastor of his church, was one of the first people to support George Weiss with the Say Yes to Education program started in West Philadephia. His efforts to turn the lives around of the youth is quietly legendary. Joe started 2 business, has been a partner at a 3rd each very successful, worked for a US Senator, A President, has been a succesful Government Relations Consultant wth relationships that burnish his ability to produce bi-partisan support on issues relevant to Pa and the country. And he’s the only guy to have given Rick Santorum fits before he went on to the Senate in ’94. This is the hands down favorite for Lt. Gov if this party wants to close the deal in ’10 with Corbett. This folks, is the real deal. Just got to get him to announce.

Wasn’t Killion’s name linked with misuse of CDBG money years ago in his home county?
