Dems have harsh words for Meehan

The state Democratic Party wasted little time in attacking Pat Meehan Monday, calling him a “hand picked, loyal partisan” for whom GOP leaders are clearing the field in the 7th Congressional District.

“It’s obvious that Meehan’s candidacy is nothing but a proxy for the right wing party bosses who cleared the way for him to run,” Montgomery County Democratic Party chairman Marcel Groen said in a statement released by the state party. “Their meddling makes one thing clear: Meehan won’t be anything more than a partisan foot solider committed to the failed Bush-Santorum policies of the past.”

In many ways, the quick reaction to Meehan’s campaign announcement underscores that Democrats are genuinely concerned about the former U.S. Attorney’s candidacy. Political insiders in both parties say Meehan’s entrance into the race makes it more challenging for Democrats to hold the seat being vacated by Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7).

State Representative Bryan Lentz (D-Delaware) is running for the Democratic nomination, and state Representative Greg Vitali (D-Delaware) is considering a campaign.

GOP PARTY BOSSES CLEAR THE WAY FOR A HAND PICKED, LOYAL PARTISAN
Former Bush, Santorum Crony Pat Meehan Announces Candidacy in 7th District

HARRISBURG: Just days after party bosses cleared the field for one of their
own, this morning Republican Pat Meehan made it official and announced his
candidacy in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District.  Until recently
Meehan was exploring a statewide run for Governor but abandoned those plans
in early August.

Meehan, a George Bush partisan who served as a U.S. Attorney, was also a
loyal Santorum confidant in the past when he managed the former Senator’s
campaign in 1994.  His candidacy represents a partisan commitment to the
failed right wing agenda of the past that voters in the 7th district have
already rejected multiple times over.

“It’s obvious that Meehan’s candidacy is nothing but a proxy for the right
wing party bosses who cleared the way for him to run.  Their meddling makes
one thing clear: Meehan won’t be anything more than a partisan foot solider
committed to the failed Bush-Santorum policies of the past,” said Montgomery
County Democratic Party Chairman Marcel Groen.

“Unfortunately for him, voters in this district have already repeatedly
rejected the right wing Bush-Santorum agenda that his campaign represents,
and Meehan shouldn’t expect this campaign to be any different.”

The Demonrats have no room to complain. They have taken Specter, who whole heartedly supported Bush and made him their stand up man of the hour for the US Senate Seat, without ever asking any voters in the party.
Now they have the chance for a real decent Democratic Candidate in Joe Sestak and the party is supportig the turncoat Specter..
Specter will leave the seat vacant for years this round, he’s 80+ What’s the point..

Demonrats – you’re very clever, Mr. Mentzer. While I appreciate much of the sentiment on your website – do you really think anyone is going to take you seriously if you spend all of your time name-calling instead of laying out policy?

As for the article, Mr. Meehan’s close association with Santorum is extremely disturbing to me. I imagine (and hope) the good people of the 7th Congressional District mostly agree with my Santorum squeamishness.

Maybe Specter has some dirt on Meehan he’d be willing to share with his new Dem colleagues. :-)
