Jim Cawley is an outstanding individual. The buzz in GOP circles around the state continues to focus on Carol Aichele as the candidate to balance the ticket with Tom Corbett. She appears to be the frontrunner at this point for the GOP endorsement. Very interesting race.

The top tier right now is Aichele, Cawley, Steve Johnson and if he gets in, Joe Watkins. The Party GOP is buzzing about Watkin’s speeches at the Allegheny County GOP Picnic and Philadelphia’s Loyal Opposition event last week….

coupling carol aichele’s tax raising record with corbett’s inexperience — talk about motivating the base!

It will succeed only in ushering in any one of the Democrat candidates into the Governor’s office.

Republican strategists in PA believe the GOP base will turn out in full force in 2010 because of the Obama/Pelosi agenda. They say this will benefit the entire ticket. Party folks believe Republicans lost statewide elections in the populous suburbs in recent years because the so-called Soccer Moms have been flirting with the Democrats. They want a candidate with a profile who can win these people back. They’re not convinced that having three conservative men at the top of the ticket next year for U.S. Senate, Gov and Lt. Gov is a blueprint to win back these voters. We’ll see if they’re right.
