With new Web site, Specter keeps hammering Sestak on missed votes

If you thought Senator Arlen Specter’s attacks on opponent Joe Sestak’s voting attendance in Congress were just a temporary, opening salvo, think again.

Specter’s campaign this week launched a new Web site, NoShowJoe.org, which chronicles Sestak’s missed votes and where he was instead of the House floor at various times.

It also provides a link for visitors to “Tell Joe to do his job,” which leads directly to the contact page on Sestak’s House Web site.

In a bit of a technical snafu, the Specter campaign sent the link to reporters Wednesday night, but the site wasn’t properly working for some visitors until Thursday morning.

Was this website made in 1999 on Geocities? How convincing…

It does look a bit “simple”. However, the site’s got basically one message. Not sure how complicated it needs to be.

I do agree it could be more aesthetic, though I do like the thermometer. :-)

When you voted 80% of the time with Bush and Reagan, and can’t run on your own conservative record in a Democratic primary, I guess the only ammo you have left is petty corny little digs at your opponent’s attendance record. I have yet to come across a Democrat who doesn’t laugh this message off as the most pitiful rallying cry they’ve ever heard. I almost feel bad for Specter. All he has is a big list of worthless Party endorsements and some grandpa jokes about how Republicans don’t like him anymore. You only need to see the Pollster composite graph to see where this race is going. http://www.pollster.com/polls/pa/10-pa-sen-dempr-svse.php

    OMG, Jon!!
Well thanks for the graph. At that rate, Sestak will be over 100% in no time. LOL!

The party endorsements and the machine behind them mean a lot. Sestak (and his cult of followers) don’t understand that because
    1) Sestak never appreciated the existing infra-structure the local Dems had in place to help him out the first time
    2) His vast monetary resources, and lack of a credible GOP challenger, have skewed his perception of the effectiveness of his campaigning style.

One of the reason he needs so many volunteers is that he runs an extremely inefficient (and borderline incompetent) operation, based on nepotism and loyalty (and willingness to screw over local party and candidates) rather than ability and dedication to party goals. The good ones either burn out or realize their is no interest/opportunity for their ideas. The place is chaotic and mismanaged.

He’s had lots of volunteers before (when running against GOP), but now he’s in a primary and plenty of his supporters have voted for Arlen in the past.
Once the unions are on board, after Specter’s EFCA vote, Sestak is toast.

I saw the live feed for Netroot nation. Sestak did himself NO favors by appearing there right after Specter (in a debate on stage together, Sestak would get creamed).
Specter got TONS more applause, and apparently educated a lot of progressives about his positions. When it came up about Specter challenging Grassley on recent health care remarks, Specter said to the person asking: After this I’ll call Grassley and you can come with me back stage “and watch me dial”.

    Giant swinging balls!

Sestak on the other hand came out without a suit and with his sleeves half-rolled up. Doing the phony “regular-guy” image.

I was surprised that Sestak got challenged on how he hasn’t been very progressive and his votes haven’t matched the rhetoric that got him early netroots support. They cited his FISA vote, but I would have gone after him on Iraq or funding Cheney’s office too.
Best line was how progressive candidates (including Joe) have treated Netroots like the girl they fool around with under the bleachers, but won’t take to the prom.
Joe’s acted more like the guy that got the girl pregnant and pretends like he never even touched her.

My score for NetRoots (biased as some will say it is)
    Specter +1 Sestak 0

(and I’m being generous on Sestak’s score by not giving him a negative score for that painful-to-watch performance)

Thanks for the update David, someone should ask Sestak why he will not put single payer on the table as an option, whereas Specter said it certainly should be on the table as should everything. Thanks for the Net roots update.

    WestDem-
I was not looking forward to watching the event, figuring that Sestak would get softballs and Specter get attacked. I was pleasantly surprised with how well Specter was received.
(I was less surprised at the different levels of performance answering questions, since I had seen both of them back-to-back at Delco event a few months ago.)

Sestak is CLEARLY out of his league. He’s not going to get significantly better relative to Arlen when it comes to answering questions in just 6-8 months. Arlen’s 40+ years of experience really shows. It’s like Specter is playing chess and Sestak’s some kid eating the checkers.

This just proves that Sestak jumped the gun and should have waited the length of one Senate term in his house seat (though Sestak does seem to have the rambling filibuster down pat).

Specter made a VERY good point about how he’s different as a Dem: He can actually go out and stump for Obama’s policies and other issues.

When Specter was in the GOP, he could vote for stem cells, etc., but he couldn’t really go full throttle and make a point about it, because he had no support or political capital to move he debate. NOW, he can be effective spokesperson for Obama AND work on his various Republican colleagues.

BTW, the counter on the screen for the live feed indicated about 6000 people watching that way. Specter definitely made inroads with a group that was actively listening.

The moderator even touched on my point, during Sestak interview, that he and Arlen aren’t that far apart.

    Dave,

I dont believe I have ever read so much BS by one man. You are possibly the most simple minded Arlen Specter asskisser I have ever come across. Please just keep your thoughts in that hollow little head of yours, in your parents basement.

Also, how is all that work you have been doing for those campaigns? Does anyone even consult you anymore? The answer is NO, they do not. So please dont comment anymore. Its funny, you write more than the paid staff for the site, and yet NO ONE cares what you have to say.

Oh and at Netroots, Sestak beat Specter down in the straw poll. So he must have really sucked it up, huh?

    Dear Poor and Simple-minded-

I watched the whole event online. Did you? I doubt it.
The Specter got louder and longer applause than Sestak. All you have to do is listen to it.
Specter made inroads and made a good case why he can be effective for Obama’s goals.

Funny how you say no one cares, but here YOU are (I’m guessing Sestak staffer or drone) getting all upset.

If you check out the Twitter numbers, since the Netroots event, Sestak gain 26 followers (total now 801) including:
    http://twitter.com/aguechugwqq1
who wants Sestak to check out her “hot pix”
    and
    http://twitter.com/Alison8847
    and
    http://twitter.com/SexyAnika
    and
    http://twitter.com/LivingHealing

On the other hand, Specter went from 3,896 followers to 4,726. So, Specter gained 829 new followers since yesterday afternoon. His gain was bigger than Sestak’s total count of 801.
    http://twitter.com/Sestak2010/
    and
    http://twitter.com/SenArlenSpecter

    I call that a serious ass-kicking.

As for the Netroots poll, 1/3 (33.3%) of them weren’t sure. That’s a lot of “not sure” for that group.
In the Daily Kos poll just released, Specter beats Sestak 48% to 33% with 19% undecided.
So, at Netroots, which should be Sestak’s base, there are MORE undecided after hearing Specter.

In the future, if you want to come after me, try it under your real name and armed with enough intelligence to understand the information.

Specter came to the lion’s den and made his case sharply and directly.
The first words out of Sestak’s mouth when he gets his first question always are: “Well, during my 31 years in the Navy…”
He’s like a child doll that says the same phrase when you pull it’s string. In 2006, he fooled everyone by using his military background to claim he could help stand up to Bush to get timetables and accountability. Instead, he folded like a cheap suit and voted to give Bush a blank check.
The Iraq war is not the issue it was in 2006, but now Sestak’s trying to play his military credentials in the health care debate (but he’s against a single-payer system like he had in the military). Sestak has been against single-payer since the day he announced in early 2006.

Sestak is running on image, which has a low enough MPG to qualify as a clunker.

    Ah, Poor Simple-
You must be either Sam Thomas or Dana Feldesman, the only two Sestak twitter twits posting this poll.
You can start posting under your real name any time now and identifying yourself as part of the campaign. BTW, does Sestak have you working for free (below Chinese sweatshop wages) or are you a paid shill?
