Toomey hits Specter on bailouts, starts petition

Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey criticized incubent Arlen Specter on Monday for voting against an end to TARP bailouts, and started a petition on his Web site to force the issue.

“I need you to join me and sign this petition to demand Arlen Specter stop funding the bailouts of failing businesses and Washington Special Interests,” Toomey said on the petition.

Last week Specter voted against an amendment, which quickly died, that would have cut off funding for the bailout programs after this year. It garnered little attention.

“This is inexcusable,” Toomey said. “Send him and the Washington Establishment a message by signing this petition today. We will deliver your signatures as proof that Pennsylvanians don’t want our hard earned tax dollars spent on any more bailouts. Senator Specter missed his chance to stand up for Pennsylvania. I promise I will always stand with Pennsylvanians.”

Specter’s campaign declined to comment.
