THURSDAY LEFTOVERS: Toomey keeps the heat on, Dahlkemper calls for civility & still more support for Pike
By now, it should be abundantly clear: Republican Pat Toomey is running a general election campaign against both his potential Democratic opponents.
After alternating between attacks on Senator Arlen Specter and Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) throughout the last several days, the Toomey campaign shows no sign of letting up. The contours of the basic attack have become pretty solidified: Specter and Sestak are both flaming liberals, Toomey says, but at least Sestak is honest about it.
So on Thursday, it was the Toomey folks saying that “Pennsylvanians deserve to know whether Rep. Sestak will sacrifice genuine health care reform in favor of a government-run health care program that will inevitably force people off their current insurance plans in order to appeal to the radical Netroots-wing of the Democratic Party.”
Meanwhile, the campaign said, “While it’s not a secret that Sen. Specter’s career is predicated upon political calculation, the current health care debate makes this fact even more transparent.”
Maybe everyone should listen to Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3). In an e-mail to supporters Thursday, Dahlkemper said that “If there is one thing that the current debate over health insurance reform needs right now, it’s a strong dose of good old fashioned civility.”
The freshman even started a petition for civility on her Web site, which she wants you to sign and forward to friends. Who knew that civility could be petitioned for?
Finally, pa2010.com Central must confess some mild fatigue at the continuing deluge of endorsements for Democrat Doug Pike’s Congressional campaign. Pike, who already has the 6th district primary field to himself, has been endorsed by seemingly every Democrat in the state. His campaign kept ‘em coming Thursday. The flavors of the day? Lehigh Democratic Party Chair Rick Daugherty and County Commisioner Gloria L. Hamm.
We’re still waiting on that dog-catcher endorsement.
