Research 2000 poll shows Specter still leading

UPDATE APPENDED (See bottom)

Senator Arlen Specter is still ahead in both his primary matchup with Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) and a general election contest with Republican Pat Toomey, according to a recent Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll.

The survey, released last week after a Rasmussen poll showed Toomey topping both Democrats potential general election matchups, was more in line with other recent polls, but still demonstrated waning support for Specter. The poll of 600 likely voters found that Specter would beat Sestak by 15 points if the Democratic primary were held now, 48 percent to 33 percent. But 19 percent remain undecided.

In the general election, Specter would top Toomey by five points, 45 percent to 40 percent. Sestak and Toomey are in a statistical deadheat, with Sestak leading by one point, 42 percent to 41 percent.

UPDATE: In June 2010, Daily Kos disavowed all polling data provided by Research 2000, alleging fraud. As of July 2010, Research 2000 had denied wrongdoing but taken down its Web site.

Daily Kos polls are usually way less accurate than even Rasmussen polls; the truth lies somewhere in between.

Toomey isn’t beating both Specter and Sestak, so Rasmussen appears skewed-Right, as usual.

I am willing to predict that Arlen Specter is leading Toomey and Sestak and that Toomey leads Sestak slightly. I would say this poll is probably pretty accurate.

Actually, Rasmussen was rated the most accurate polling firm for the 2008 election. Research 2000 was 7th and are frequent outliers.
