Gerlach vs. Hoeffel for governor?

Intrigued by the items late last week that MontCo Commissioner and former Congressman Joe Hoeffel might be looking at the governor’s race, along with news of Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) picking up another endorsement. Sure, neither of them is a frontrunner, and they could both go nowhere.

But the southeast is where the money is in Pennsylvania politics, and candidates from the region—look at Ed Rendell—have often surprised the “favorites” from other parts of the state. Moreover, for all the talk of extremism, I’m betting that moderates will be more in vogue than you think in 2010, and both Hoeffel and Gerlach have been known as colorless, woops, moderate politicians for a long time.  An all-southeast race for the Governor’s Mansion?

It could happen.
