Corbett camp: Gerlach is ‘mudslinging… we all expected better’
Responding to Congressman Jim Gerlach’s (R-6) first direct attack of the gubernatorial race Wednesday, state Attorney General Tom Corbett’s campaign shot back, accusing Gerlach of launching his candidacy on a bad note.
“It’s disappointing that Jim Gerlach would begin his campaign for governor on such a negative tone,” Corbett campaign manager Brian Nutt said. “This is exactly the type of negative politics and mudslinging that disappoints voters.
“In these difficult times,” Nutt added, “Pennsylvanians are looking for a leader whom they can trust, has a track record of protecting Pennsylvania taxpayers and making Pennsylvania a better and safer place to live, work and raise a family, not a career politician and opportunist who has a history of moving from elected office to elected office in order to promote his own political ambition. We all expected better from Jim Gerlach. Clearly he is trying to take a page from John Morganelli’s unsuccessful playbook from last year, a tactic that voters clearly saw through when they re-elected Tom Corbett with more votes than any Republican candidate in Pennsylvania history.”

Does Nutt think people are stupid enough to think he is taking the high road by denouncing negative campaign tactics, when two sentences later he calls Gerlach, “a career politician and opportunist who has a history of moving from elected office to elected office in order to promote his own political ambition.”

Poltical. MC reported Nutt took unpaid leave from the AG’s office to work on the campaign.

Mudslinging? It’s a substantive concern about a very real conflict of interest. It’s not personal in the least. If this is how thin-skinned Corbett is, he’s never going to last the campaign.
