A tragedy

I hope readers will grant me the indulgence to veer off subject for a few lines to address the recent shooting incident that occurred here in our area.

For those of you who may be unaware of the events, on Tuesday evening, a man walked into an LA Fitness Center facility just outside of Pittsburgh, made his way through to the back of the building where, as a member, he apparently knew a roomful of women would be waiting to take an aerobics class, and opened fire with two of the four handguns he brought with him, killing three women and wounding nine others before turning one of the guns on himself.

According to both a log and online blog kept by 48-year-old George Sodini, hatred toward women stemming from his perceived rejection by them was what motivated him to plan what he called “this project” for months, backing out of at least one previous attempt at the same location in January.

I’m sure all of our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims, those in the Center and community who’ve been impacted by this tragedy, as well as to the family and friends of the shooter who will no doubt be experiencing their own kind of horror in the wake of this incident.
