Gerlach has no chance of winning statewide in a party increasingly dominated by religious conservatives and extreme libertarians. Furthermore, Gerlach has always been a dutiful lieutenant to the state GOP. Also, the state and national GOP will recognize that Gerlach is their best (and perhaps their only) hope to hold on to PA-6. The powers that be will prevail upon him to run for re-election. What I find telling is the different reactions of Corbett and Meehan. Corbett is clearly scared of the competition. Meehan is confident. And Corbett has reason to be afraid - he's not a gifted or natural politician and lacks his own loyal following. No AG has ever been elected governor! The odds are long, but my money is on Meehan to win the nomination.

Abe – I predict that Gerlach will drop out of the race by the time of the state GOP endorsement, if not sooner.
