Sestak and Specter ought to cease & desist
Maybe it’s time to commission Muhlenberg or Franklin & Marshall or Quinnipiac for a new poll. The question I have for Pennsylvanians is this:
How much would you pay to NOT have Arlen Specter and Joe Sestak spend the next 10 months beating the living crud out of each other?
a) 1 cent
b) 1 dollar
c) $1 million
d) your firstborn child
I am personally leaning between $1 and $1 million, because, frankly, the Senator and Congressman have already begun to exhaust the limits of political hardball and mudslinging, and it’s only July 2009. We’ve got many rivers to cross before the Senate primary next year.
This week, Specter’s camp has a new ad saying Sestak has one of the worst voting records in Congress, since he has not been in Congressional chamber to caste his vote on a number of bills.
Sestak answered on Monday with a news release that lambasted Specter for the way he grilled Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Did he forget that he switched from the GOP to the Democratic Party, Sestak’s release asked.
It has been three months since Specter switched parties. That means Sestak has gotten just about all the mileage he can out of this political hot-foot move by the five-term senator. If Sestak wants to be a U.S. Senator, he shouldn’t try to win solely on the basis of NOT being a party-switching Specter.
At the same time, Specter does himself a disservice by continuing with the same old Snarlin’ Arlen tactics. If he is the better choice for Pennsylvanians because of his experience and his ability to deliver for the state, then that should be the centerpiece of his reelection campaign.

So, Sestak is complaining because Specter actually did his job and questioned a nominee? Wow.
Specter didn’t attack her with racist rhetoric like the GOP and didn’t act as an advocate like the Dems. I guess Sestak just doesn’t understand the job for which he is applying.
As for what I would pay? Hmmm.
I’ve joked at work about quitting my regular pay job to campaign against Sestak full time (so far it’s been a hobby). I’d like to see the Sestak campaign crushed as soon as possible to avoid wasting Dem resources on this unnecessary slugfest.
Note to Joe: if I do go full-time, you might want to hire another 10 staffers just to deal with me.

Of course liberal Democrat reporter Laura Vecsey doesn’t want to see Democrats have a battle that leaves the victor mortally wounded for the fall. Too bad, Laura, your worst nightmare is about to come true because Snarlen Arlen is as negative as they come. Sestak is going to win the primary, and it looks like he’ll face Toomey. That’ll be a good matchup. Toomey seems to draw Reagan Democrats. Sestak is very liberal. Slight edge to Toomey.

I hope Toomey beats my expectations (35% of the vote) because I think his feelings would really be hurt if he gets absolutely trounced…
To Laura – For every candidate, I’ve seen some articles you’ve written that compliment them on their good moves and others that criticize them for their bad ones. And for the record, I think you’ve been very fair.

This is a good thing. Let the goofs spend money and bring out the dirt.
Go Toomey!

More evidence that the Toomey fans are counting on this primary fight and it’s a bad idea for Dems.

Toomey is so far Right, I don’t think we have to worry about too many Democrats jumping ship. Sestak or Specter, the Dems are keeping this seat.
