Rendell: Onorato is ‘probably our next governor’
In the midst of once again discouraging Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) from his all-but-certain run against Senator Arlen Specter, Gov. Ed Rendell on Monday let a not-so-small political prediction slip: He thinks Dan Onorato will be the Keystone State’s next governor.
Rendell, speaking on Bill Press’ radio show, was listing the many Democratic establishment figures who he said are supporting Specter in next year’s primary. Some of the names he dropped haven’t publicly endorsed Specter, and when he mentioned Onorato, the Allegheny County Executive, he casually described him as “probably our next governor.”
Rendell has said he will stay neutral in next year’s gubernatorial primary. But less than a year before the primary, many party insiders consider Onorato the favorite. Obviously Rendell agrees.
But Rendell’s focus clearly remains on talking Sestak out challenging Specter.
“I think it’s a tremendous uphill fight … it will cost Joe his seat in the House and maybe cost the Democratic Party what would be a safe seat if Joe remained.”

You can’t spell GOV without the “O”, thats why Im supporting Dannie O for Governor. I agree with Rendell, Onorato is the best to have on our ticket in 2010.

You can’t spell “GOP” and their “NO” approach to fixing problems without “O” either.

“O” bama spent an entire campaign putting distance between himself and corruption and himself and taxes on the middle class. That was smart.
It looks like “O” norato is going to spend his campaign wrapping himself in the loving arms of Mr. Spendell and his corrupt Philly pals like convicted felon Fumo. That is dumb.
And I am happy because our prosecutors will take down the tax and payola gang next year and the Q poll shows it.

But we also have “O” indicted members of the legislature and “O” convicted State Senators.

Onorato must think that the political machine will carry him through the primary. 42% of registered Dems live in the greater philadelphia area and Tom Knox is already on TV in that market. Couple that with the fact that these people already know him from his campaign for mayor, and you have the making of a powerful candidate that will emerge statewide by 2010. Only people associated with the same old political machine have heard the name Dan Onorato. Yeah, he is known in the west, but he is known for his implementation of the drink tax. Wagner and Onorato will split the votes out that way and Tom Knox will cruise to the general election in the fall.
