Philadelphia — Congressman Robert A. Brady (D., PA) today introduced a resolution in honor of the life and accomplishments of Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson.

Saying the City of Philadelphia and the NFL lost one of our greatest treasures, the resolution praised Johnson who died July 28 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Is Specter’s health fair game?

The notable absence of two senior Democrats from most Senate proceedings this year has certainly raised questions about the drawbacks of reelecting such elder statesmen. Both the septuagenarian Ted Kennedy and the octogenarian Robert Byrd have missed key votes this year because of the former’s brain tumor and the latter’s litany of maladies. Kennedy has needed to pNow, another elderly Democrat with a history of health problems is seeking an additional six-year Senate term. Senator Arlen Specter, age 79, maintains a vigorous lifestyle in order to keep in shape; yet it is a well known fact that he’s undergone a long battle with cancer since being diagnosed with Hodgkins disease in 2005. In the past four years, Specter has fought off two bouts of cancer, most recently staving off a recurrence in April of 2008 with 12 chemotherapy treatments that ended that July. Castor drops bid for state Senate

Bruce Castor’s decision not to run for Senator Rob Wonderling’s seat came in an emailed statement early this week, leaving Bob Mensch as the only Republican now running for the seat. No Democrats have announced that they will run for the seat.

Asked about Gov. Ed Rendell’s slipping approval ratings Wednesday, Senator Bob Casey said the governor would “do just fine” coming out of a contentious budget season, and said the larger economic downturn was largely to blame.
