Gerlach reportedly to announce gubernatorial run
Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) will forgo reelection next year to make a run at the Governor’s Mansion instead, The Morning Call reports.
Gerlach has for months been considering a gubernatorial bid, even as local and national Republicans have shuddered at the prospect of defending his increasingly-Democratic seat without their incumbent. But The Morning Call reports that Gerlach could make his announcement as early as today, and that he has already alerted the National Republican Congressional Committee.
He would join a competitive primary field with state Attorney General Tom Corbett and former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan. Gerlach’s exit from the Congressional race would mean a huge opening for Democrats, who appear to be rallying behind Doug Pike for the nomination. State Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) has said he’ll seek the GOP nomination if Gerlach steps aside.

May it be so. In my experience, Gerlach’s constituent service discriminated against Democraticly registered voters. His office, despite persistent requests for help, provided congenial lip service, but no action, results, nor returned phone calls or correspondence.
