Gerlach Campaign Questions Corbett Use of Official Party Logo
By GERLACH FOR PA
(Exton, PA) – This week, several Republican state committee members contacted the Gerlach for Governor campaign angry about a mailing sent by Tom Corbett enclosed in an official-looking RNC envelope. The envelope, containing the RNC logo and the words “Republican National Committee” across the front, falsely implies that he has been endorsed by the national Republican Party. No endorsement has or will be given, according to RNC staff.
Ironically, the enclosed newsletter talks about “honest leadership” despite the error in appearing to be an official party mailing. It also discusses poll results that fail to disclose other troubling signs for Corbett.
“Our campaign hopes that Mr. Corbett would not have personally authorized putting his campaign information inside an envelope that suggests that he has been endorsed by the RNC, when nothing is further from the truth,” said Mark Campbell, spokesman for the Gerlach campaign. “Clearly the mailing is not from the RNC, so we necessarily have to question why this was done. Hopefully it was one big mistake.”
The enclosed Corbett campaign newsletter also discussed a recent Susquehanna Research poll, which tested a possible general election match-up between Corbett and little known Democrat County Executive Dan Onorato. Corbett however left out a key finding and the most troubling part of the poll, which shows Corbett trailing Onorato by over 20 points in their shared southwestern PA base. The numbers demonstrate a lack of strength in Corbett’s home area and thereby raise questions of his electoral ability to succeed statewide in a general election.
