A night in Venice

Since 1959, an Ocean City parade of boats called the “Night in Venice” celebration has been one of family, fun, and a flotilla of beautiful boats.  This year’s event, last Saturday, was no exception.

You might ask, “what does “Night in Venice” have to do with the 2010 elections?” I will tell you—plenty.

I was fortunate enough to attend a private party in Ocean City that had many former Republican officials from the Main Line in attendance, and there was plenty of 2010 talk—from healthcare, to the New Jersey corruption scandal to Sarah Palin. Everyone had an opinion—some good, some not. But ironically, when all the boats started passing, the one boat that generated the most talk was a small motorboat that said, “Who MADOFF with my yacht?” The partygoers clapped loudly on this. In addition, I had an opportunity to talk one-on-one with a power broker and he said that with the gubernatorial election next year and a Congressional seat opening up as Jim Gerlach runs for governor, his opinion was that it could be a big win for the GOP next year, especially as there is major dissatisfaction with Washington.

Stay tuned for more.
