While I was away…

Back from Italy and nothing much seems to have changed in my absence. Joe Sestak continues to pick up support and money while Arlen Specter is essentially relying on President Obama and Vice President Biden to scare off opponents. Why don’t I think this is likely to work?

Pretty much no sign that the GOP has a strategy to deal with its problems or even understands them. Every day I get another invitation to a judicial fundraiser and more venom about Obama’s policies, as if merely repeating the attacks will make them somehow take hold. Why don’t I think this is going to work, either?

Most underrated story of the week: the Iranian election. There are two interpretations of it: Onem, the government cheated, or two, the Iranians actually like an anti-semitic, America-hating, nuclear-weapons building guy as their president. Either way, the chances for Obama’s opening to Teheran seem increasingly slim, and the likelihood that he can avoid a significant crisis on this score likewise diminished.
