BucksCo’s Cordisco considering Lt. Gov. run
Bucks County Democratic leader John Cordisco is thinking about adding his name to the very small list of Democrats running for Lieutenant Governor next year, Cordisco told pa010.com.
In a brief interview last weekend during the State Committee gathering in Pittsburgh, Cordisco, who has headed up the county party for 7 years, said he had been approached by union and party leaders about the prospect of a run.
“Obviously it took me by surprise,” Cordisco said, “but I would consider it.”
While more than a dozen Republicans are considering a bottom-ticket run, Democrats interested in the race are few and far between. Cordisco ran in the Democratic primary for state Treasurer last year, racking up 26 percent of the vote but still losing to Rob McCord.
If the eventual Democratic nominee for Govenor comes from western Pennsylvania, Cordisco could bring geographic balance to the ticket. But others interested in the office, including former Philadelphia City Controller Jonathan Saidel and Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty, offer the same political benefit.
Cordisco said he would try and gaugue the viability of his potential candidacy in the coming months.
“I need to really do some soul-searching and speak to family, as well as party leaders, to see if my candidacy makes sense,” he said.
