Why the Supreme Court matters in 2010

Aside from the races for Governor and Senate next year, Pennsylvanians will be counted during the decennial Census.

The Census is critical as it relates to carving out representation in Congress, the state House of Representatives and state Senate. It also determines how federal resources will be allocated to help Pennsylvanians, particularly in tough economic times.

In 2000, Senate Republicans decimated Democratic districts throughout Pennsylvania with reckless abandonment.

Next year may not be any different.

Make no mistake about it. Gov. Ed Rendell and the entire Pennsylvania Democratic Party will work tirelessly to elect Judge Jack Panella to the state Supreme Court to break a 3-all tie to ensure that a Democratic-leaning court will balance a Republican-dominated state Senate.
