Turning 60
By DOUG PIKE FOR CONGRESS
Dear Friends,
I’m not sure if you know this but I want to let you in on a little secret. Today, May 14th, is my friend Doug’s 60th Birthday. It’s also been 60 years that Democrats have been fighting for health care.
Doug was born in 1949 – the same year that Harry Truman urged Congress to act on health care. Truman announced that his goal was “to enact a comprehensive insurance system which would remove the money barrier between illness and therapy.” Doug likes to quote Senator Harris Wofford, who said that “a criminal has the right to be defended by a lawyer – surely a sick person has the right to be cared for by a doctor.” Throughout Doug’s entire life we have failed to act on an issue of critical importance to all Americans because politics has gotten in the way.
Doug isn’t a career politician and he won’t play political games. He is used to listening to people, diagnosing tough problems, and pushing for change – and Doug is ready to push for change on health care. But he needs our help to get elected first. Doug’s campaign has received national recognition for what is expected to be one of the most competitive congressional campaigns in the country. (I hope you saw the section on Doug from a memo that the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent to his colleagues; if not, click here.) I know times are tough, but Doug needs your help now.
Let’s help him celebrate! Please contribute $60 to Doug’s campaign to bring a fresh perspective to Washington by clicking here. Or bring a few friends to his Birthday Party by asking six friends to contribute $10 to his campaign!
Also, please take a moment to send Doug a Birthday message at Doug@PikeforCongress.com.
Sincerely,
John Lubell
