Toomey the moderate
It’s quite amazing that Pat Toomey is now trying to re-brand himself a moderate, only a couple months after he was much more comfortable as a darling of the conservative base. The positions he laid out in a recent op-ed are just one more example of how things have changed, with Toomey having lost his political foil and reason for being in the race—Arlen Specter.
Friend of the site Josh Drobnyk, who’s been following Toomey’s gradual moderation well, has a good take on the situation at Pennsylvania Ave.

Where did you get “Toomey is trying re-brand himself as a moderate” out of that piece? Toomey has always been more “moderate” on social issues and defense than say Rick Santorum, and committed to limited government on fiscal/economic policy in light of the enormous growth of government under Bush and Obama.
The “moderate” vs. “ultra conservative” labels you pundits need to fall back on is getting lame.

You make a good point Gil, and I realize now that my original wording wasn’t specific enough. Whether he’s always been a moderate or not, what’s interesting is that a month ago he never would have sought to paint himself as such. That’s what I meant by re-branding.
Thanks for the feedback Gil.

Nice try Dan but with all due respect I think you are way off on this one. I don’t think Pat is trying to label or rebrand himself as anything other than a freedom promoting government limiting Republican like Ronald Reagan. Any how, love the site. Keep it going.
