PA GOP hires Congressional liason

The state Republican Party has hired a longtime political consultant from Pittsburgh to be its dedicated liaison to Congressional campaigns for 2010, party chairman Rob Gleason said.

Jerry Morgan was recently brought on to fill the position, which Gleason told pa2010.com last month was being created to give the party more influence in recruiting candidates and developing Congressional campaigns.

“We’re going to have a full-time, experienced person whose only job is going to be recruiting for and managing Congressional races,” Gleason said at the time. “We’ve never had that before. We’ve left it up to whoever shows up to see what kind of campaign they want to run.”

Morgan is a longtime operative in GOP circles, who has worked on Congressional campaigns including Congressman Bill Shuster’s (R-9) special election victory in 2001 and Tom Manion’s losing bid against Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8) last year.

He has also worked for former Lt. Gov. Bill Scranton, former Congressman Don Sherwood and state Representative Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny).

Morgan ran an awful campaign last year in the Tom Manion Pat Murphy race. This is ridiculous. The man is clueless about how to win outside of Don Sherwood’s district which he also lost as well. Gleason needs to have his head examined.

This is interesting news. All sorts of interesting developments from PA-8. Jerry Morgan running congressional races from Harrisburg. Huh. Is he the one who is working Tom Manion’s daughter to run in the next election cycle?
