Only 10 minutes lead time on Specter decision? Ouch

Friend of the site Alex Roarty reports that Senator Arlen Specter’s decision to switch parties last week caught the state GOP pretty much as off-guard as anybody else.

On PoliticsPA, Roarty writes that the party learned of Specter’s defection 10 minutes before the announcement was made.

All things considered, it seems the party moved pretty fast in their coordinated denunciation of Specter. I guess it’s easier when you lose someone you didn’t like that much anyway.

Specter had all of his staffers (besides the big whigs of course) across the state on a conference call telling them of his switch as the story was breaking, Ouch.
