Name my dog!

Please meet the newest member of my family. She’s a 10-week-old baby girl, a Poodle-Retriever mix. She arrives in Philadelphia June 2 and I’m very excited.

So in the time-honored tradition of exploiting our pets, I’d like to announce the first—and only—pa2010.com Name-My-Dog Contest!

Got a good name for her? Post it as a comment or e-mail me. If you pick the winning name, you’ll get to choose a specific question for me to ask one of the state’s leading political figures.

So have at it!

UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER!! HER NAME IS PENNY

Though she didn’t enter the contest directly, a reader “Julie” offers up this entry:

“You should name your dog Harriet (as in harriet the spy) or nancy drew. A journalist should have a dog who understands the need for in-depth investigation.”

Sorry, Dan, but any name other than Arlen is simply not serious. If you can change parties why not genders? And she will do whatever you tell her.

    Sydney

    Delilah

    Gabrielle (aka Gabby)

    Maibee (like from Arrested Development)

    Polly

    Gwen

  10. Assaf

I think you should name it “assaf”.

If that’s too traditional, “Terrell”, “Plaxico”, “FredEx”, or any other nfl receiver name that is at all related to the Eagles being a terrible football team…

Rhoda – nickname Rhodie. Then you’ll have Rocky and Rhodie

  12. Danny B

    Jun 2nd, 2009

You should name her “Lynn” in honor of both Steelers great turned pol Lynn Swann and retiring Philly DA Lynn Abraham. That way you cover both parties and both sides of the state.

Reader “Aubrey” submits the following suggestions:

    Claudia Jean (C.J.)

Reader “Carey” (a different Carey) recommends the name “Pundit”.

Interesting, but I think the dog should maintain objectivity like her master tries.

I like political names for pets. How about Indira as in Indira Gandhi. She’s too pretty to call her Margaret Thatcher.

While I had great affection for a dog named Chloe while growing up, it’d be hard to go wrong with “Stockton” in honor of the Good Doctor.
