Meehan delivers commencement speech at Catholic University in Aston
It’s almost summer and it is getting to be graduation time. Gubernatorial hopeful Pat Meehan was invited to make an appearance at one graduation ceremony, where he delivered another warning message to corrupt politicians and CEOs.
The warning came during a commencement address at Neumann University, a Catholic college in Aston. The Daily Times reports that Pat Meehan spoke of a general lack of public trust in American institutions.
“It started in corporate boardrooms symbolized by Enron… and many saw that their investments and retirement plans were wiped out,” Meehan said. “We have seen it spread to banking, real estate and our government itself where greed and corruption have led many to believe that public service means self service.”
Meehan also told students that they will carry with them the religious tradition that helped shape their lives at Neumann University, The Daily Times reported.
“For these times, for the future of our nation and for this experiment in democracy which gives us our place in the world, I urge you to never lose sight of those values,” the Daily Bulletin reports Meehan as saying. “I propose to you that the future of this great nation and the legacy you will hand to your children depends upon it.”
Meehan also won, some time ago, the school’s Presidential Humanitarian Award, which, according to the university’s Web site, is given to “an individual whose life reflects a commitment to serve humanity, devotion to religious and family values, willingness to take risks in the pursuit of vision, and a demonstrated value for philanthropy and education.”
