Leftover QPoll numbers
A few more statistics from yesterday’s Quinnipiac poll, which showed Republican Pat Toomey gaining on Senator Arlen Specter:
-Specter’s lead among Democrats remains formidable, with 73 percent supporting him. The same proportion of Republicans, though, support Toomey.
-Independents, not surprisingly, seem likely to sway the race. Specter currently leads among the group 43 percent to 33 percent, but 19 percent are undecided.
-While Specter holds huge leads in his Philadelphia-area base, the numbers in Allegheny County, northeast Pennsylvania southwest Pennsylvania are much closer. Toomey leads Specter in Allegheny by two points, and Specter leads in the populous northeast by only 5 points.
-Almost 30 percent of independents don’t know who they would back in a general election between Toomey and Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7).
-Sestak would beat Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) in a general election by only 4 points. Almost a third of voters are undecided in that matchup.
-Despite Toomey’s standing mostly alone in the GOP field and the publicity he’s received after Specter’s switch, 61 percent of voters still haven’t heard enough about him to form an opinion.
-54 percent of voters approve of the job Gov. Ed Rendell is doing.
-42 percent of voters feel the same way about the state legislature,
-Specter’s approval ratings are mostly stable at 51 percent, while Senator Bob Casey is approved of by 56 percent of voters, his best numbers in the survey to date.
-President Obama has the approval of 62 percent of voters, including 91 percent of Democrats.
