Analyst: Specter still vulnerable
Though many pundits have been saying Senator Arlen Specter essentially won reelection last week by switching parties, at least one analyst says “not so fast.”
In an op-ed in The Inquirer, Muhlenberg College pollster and political science professor Chris Borick writes that Specter could be just as vulnerable to a challenge from the left in the Democratic primary as he was to attacks from the right in a Republican primary.
“A smart fifth grader with access to Google could put together decades’ worth of votes putting Specter at odds with Democratic positions,” Borick writes. “From Anita Hill to union card check, there is no shortage of material.”

There are also plenty of Specter votes where he bucked the GOP: Bork, stimulus bill, etc.
What will matter for Specter’s “Democratic credentials” is NOT his 29 year record (which can be argued either way). I think it will be his votes this next year and the opportunities he gives Obama and Rendell to crow about Specter’s switch to our side.
