State GOP help for Congressional races a welcome idea
I was interested in the news that the state Republican Party is going to have a full-time liaison for Congressional races. Much of the little good help I got in my own 2nd District Congressional race was from Brandon Danz and the others at the state party. But they have their work cut out for them.
Most local parties are geared to, well, local elections—it’s hard to find anyone who even knows the FEC rules. National consultants are more sophisticated but they tend to urge the same, cookie-cutter campaigns. For example, people at the McCain campaign were always telling us to turn out “white working class” voters, ignoring the fact that many of them were dead, and the voters in suburban Philadelphia were totally turned off by a right-wing social appeal. There’s a real role for the State GOP in picking and supporting candidates who are appropriate for their own district, but they’ll have to start very soon.
Like maybe, right now.
