RUMOR MILL: Arlen Specter edition

WARNING: NOTHING YOU READ HERE HAS BEEN VETTED, FACT-CHECKED, OR IN ANY OTHER WAY RESPONSIBLY REPORTED. BUT PEOPLE ARE SAYING IT, SO IT MUST BE TRUE. RIGHT?

-Did you hear? Gov. Rendell extorted a spot on the Supreme Court for his wife in exchange for supporting Arlen Specter as a Democrat.

-Did you hear? Joe Torsella’s just been sitting in the race on behalf of Specter, keeping the primary field warm for him. He’s probably already packing up the stuff in his campaign office.

-Did you hear? President Obama’s coming to Pennsylvania to campaign for Specter… and brining every single person who attended his inauguration along for the fun.

-Did you hear? Tom Ridge is going to run for Senate. Makes sense.

-Did you hear? Pat Toomey is crying somewhere.

Did you hear? I heard.

For the last 15 months the storyline surrounding PA GOPers has been about moderates leaving the Party in droves and conservatives in control. Although endangered, moderate GOPers residing in Wayne still do exist. They hate taxes, but support a woman’s right to choose. Where do they go in the primary? Do they throw they’re support behind anti-Limbaugh GOPer Larry Murphy? Do they sit out the primary and support Specter in the general? Or do they start a draft Ridge movement? Ridge has always been popular in the Philly suburbs, and is probably one of the few GOPers with the money and message who could challenge Specter in the voter-rich southeast.
