House Passes Davis/Carney Amendment to Protect Credit Cardholders

By THE OFFICE OF CONGRESSMAN CHRIS CARNEY (D-10)

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Carney voted to bring common sense reform and consumer protections to our financial system. The Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights ends the unfair practices of the credit card industry and protects consumers from the abusive tactics that continue to drive so many Americans deeper and deeper into debt. The bill levels the playing field between card issuers and cardholders by applying common sense…

Kortz: ‘I’m still in it’

Bill Kortz says he’s not going anywhere.

The Allegheny County state Representative told pa2010.com that while he is reevaluating his strategy in light of Senator Arlen Specter’s decision to switch parties, he still has every intention of running for the Democratic Senate primary.

“Nothing changes,” Kortz said.

He said reaction among voters to Specter’s switch had not been nearly as enthusiastic as the jubilation expressed by party insiders. And while he was hesitant to criticize…

Welcome, Senator Specter

When Senator Arlen Specter switched parties and became a Democrat this week, it sent shock waves through the Republican ranks throughout Pennsylvania and Washington. Specter had clearly had enough of the failed policies and ideas of the far right, which seems to be taking over the GOP. Let’s face it, Republicans have been less than stellar in coming up with new ideas. In fact, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh and former vice-president Dick Cheney are still…

Considering Senate bid, Gerlach will continue ‘listening’

Considering Senate bid, Gerlach will continue ‘listening’

Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6), who is emerging as one of the lead GOP contenders to run for Senate in Arlen Specter’s place despite his expressed interest in the governorship, says people are encouraging him to enter the race—but that he’s still just listening.

In a statement from his office (hat tip to GrassrootsPA), Gerlach said: “I will continue to travel the Commonwealth considering future opportunities to serve, while listening and promoting a Republican rebirth in…

Specter can’t erase his past

In response to the GOP pOk, let me get this straight: Specter is now going to take the high road and act as if he is above negative campaigning. This is the same Specter that, just a few weeks ago, launched bitter attack ads on statewide television against a Republican who hadn’t even become a declared candidate. Specter may have gotten a new letter after his name and a fancy new desk on the floor of the Senate, but he can’t erase his past./p
pIt is amazing! Specter leaves the Republican Party and now he wants to forget his past transgressions. Good luck! Specter may not want to answer to the Pennsylvania electorate, or as he puts it, “to have my 29-year record in the United States Senate decided by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate,” but he will no choice in November 2010. That is assuming he gets that far./p
pAccording to reports, Specter is going to still have some primary problems, this time on the Democrat side. a href="http://www.pa2010.com/2009/04/torsella-rendell-hasnt-asked-me-to-bow-out/" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http://www.pa2010.com']);return TrackClick("http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pa2010.com%2F2009%2F04%2Ftorsella-rendell-hasnt-asked-me-to-bow-out%2F','Click+here')" target="_blank"Click here/a to read empa2010.com/em editor Dan Hirschhorn’s story on Joe Torsella’s campaign and his intention to stay in the race. Another ‘casualty’ of Specter’s switch: A defunct poll

G. Terry Madonna was planning to release his latest poll this morning, which would have—not surprisingly—shown Senator Arlen Specter struggling among Republican voters.

So much for that.

Specter on Tuesday said he would switch parties, making the poll mostly—though not entirely—useless.

“I’ve never had it happen in 18 years of polling that we had a poll we couldn’t release,” Madonna told pa2010.com.

But Madonna, a pollster at Franklin & Marshall College, isn’t bitter about the…

OUCH! Sen. Orrin Hatch tosses Toomey under the bus

Well, so much for Pat Toomey getting support for his candidacy from well-placed Senate Republicans! On Wednesday, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), said that Toomey wasn’t up to the task.

“I don’t think there is anybody in the world who believes he can get elected senator there,” Hatch said.
