Specter can’t erase his past

In response to the GOP pOk, let me get this straight: Specter is now going to take the high road and act as if he is above negative campaigning. This is the same Specter that, just a few weeks ago, launched bitter attack ads on statewide television against a Republican who hadn’t even become a declared candidate. Specter may have gotten a new letter after his name and a fancy new desk on the floor of the Senate, but he can’t erase his past./p

Another ‘casualty’ of Specter’s switch: A defunct poll

G. Terry Madonna was planning to release his latest poll this morning, which would have—not surprisingly—shown Senator Arlen Specter struggling among Republican voters.

So much for that.

Specter on Tuesday said he would switch parties, making the poll mostly—though not entirely—useless.

“I’ve never had it happen in 18 years of polling that we had a poll we couldn’t release,” Madonna told pa2010.com.

Well, so much for Pat Toomey getting support for his candidacy from well-placed Senate Republicans! On Wednesday, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), said that Toomey wasn’t up to the task.

“I don’t think there is anybody in the world who believes he can get elected senator there,” Hatch said.
